About Us
Labour Friends of Turkey is a new organisation aiming to bring together UK Labour Party politicians, members and supporters to strive towards closer UK-Turkey relations.
Labour Friends of Turkey has been coordinated by Labour Party Members of Parliament – Nesil Caliskan MP. A committee will be elected at the upcoming inaugural meeting.
What we do
- Bring together Labour Party members and supporters of Turkish-heritage and -origin
- Encourage support for the Labour Party amongst Turkish-heritage and -origin voters
- Foster closer ties between the Labour Party and the Government of Turkey
- Build support for the progressive vision for Turkey’s future
Why we do it
Turkey is an important NATO ally and friend of the UK, and a vital partner in the UK Government’s mission for stability and security in the Middle East and Europe. A progressive Turkey can help the Labour Party in this mission, build lasting security for the region, and secure prosperity for the Turkish people. The Labour Party stands ready to stand up for Turkish-speaking communities and the Turkish diaspora in the UK, and Labour Friends of Turkey will help foster closer links between the party and these communities.
